Amendment of the Personal Status Law

Discussions regarding the amendment of the Iraqi Personal Status Law started at the beginning of the drafting of the constitution, in compliance with its provisions and as an activation of the fundamental principles in which this topic was deliberated. Due to the sensitivity of the matter and the divergence of opinions on it, this was postponed repeatedly until the first reading for amending the Personal Status Law No. 188 of 1959 appeared after the vote to include it in the session agenda.

Mr. Jamal Taher Al-Asadi

Holding a master’s degree in law, Mr. Al-Asadi previously served as the Acting Inspector General of the Ministry of Justice in 2015 and as Inspector General for the Ministry of Interior and the Border Crossings Commission until 2020. He was also the Director General of Training and Rehabilitation at the Ministry of Interior and currently serves as an Advisor to the Ministry of Trade. He has lectured at various private colleges, the Judicial Institute, and the High Institute.
