Al-Baidar Center Launches New Book “Difference Generates Difference” on Social Structures in Sadr City

Al-Baidar Center for Studies and Planning hosted a launch ceremony for its new book, titled Difference Generates Difference: Primary and Parallel Social Structures in Sadr City. The event was attended by a distinguished group of researchers, academics, and individuals interested in Iraqi social affairs.

During the ceremony, Dr. Adnan Sabih—the book’s author and the head of the supervising research team—delivered a comprehensive presentation on the work. He explained that the book represents one of the most prominent specialized research projects studying post-2003 Iraqi society. It utilizes Sadr City as a spatial model to analyze the social transformations and societal structures that have emerged over recent decades.

Representing the book’s review and introductory team, Dr. Alaa Idris also spoke, outlining the research project’s main themes and scientific methodology. He noted that the book’s completion is the fruit of a joint collaboration between Al-Baidar Center for Studies and Planning and the Baghdad Rewaq Center for Public Policy. The project took approximately a full year of research, field study, and analysis to complete.

The event featured a contribution by Dr. Ali Al-Marhaj, who provided a critical reading of the book. He reviewed the key ideas and findings reached by the researchers, as well as the valuable insights it offers toward understanding the Iraqi social reality and its transformations.

The book is considered a novel scholarly contribution to the field of Iraqi social studies. It sheds light on the primary and parallel social structures in Sadr City, offering an in-depth analytical reading of social interactions and their impact on shaping the contemporary societal reality.

The launch ceremony was attended by a host of researchers, academics, and social studies enthusiasts, who praised the significance of the research project and its role in enriching the Iraqi library with specialized, field-based studies.
