Al-Baidar Center Launches Its 2020-2025 Report Evaluating the Iraqi Economy

Al-Baidar Center for Studies and Planning has launched its strategic report titled, “A Reading and Evaluation of the Reality of the Iraqi Economy for the Period 2020-2025,” during a special ceremony hosted by the Bayt Al-Hikma Foundation and organized by its Economic Studies Department. This report marks the first scientific and research effort issued by a non-governmental think tank aimed at diagnosing the economic reality in Iraq.
The launch event, moderated by Dr. Rasoul Salem Musair from the Economic Studies Department at Bayt Al-Hikma, was attended by the report’s drafting team alongside a distinguished group of researchers, academics, and interested stakeholders. The session opened with a speech by the Department Supervisor, Professor Dr. Falah Thuwaini, who also reviewed the report. He praised its robust content, emphasizing the profound importance of this achievement as a pioneering and vital initiative by independent think tanks.
For its part, Al-Baidar Center’s drafting team presented the forward-looking vision adopted in the report. They noted that it places a real responsibility on decision-makers to transition towards a productive and diversified economy, thereby safeguarding the rights of future generations and liberating the state from the constraints of unproductive economic dominance. The presentation included a detailed breakdown of the data and core themes underpinning the report, which included:
-
Reviewing the general framework of the Iraqi economy.
-
Evaluating fiscal and monetary policies.
-
Analyzing the current state of the banking sector and the stock market.
-
Assessing the trajectory of trade policy in the country.
Through the recommendations included in its publication, Al-Baidar Center for Studies and Planning seeks to provide an accurate diagnosis of the structural imbalances plaguing the Iraqi economy. It also proposes practical alternatives to enhance its resilience against internal inefficiencies and external shocks. This report holds particular significance as it summarizes the state of the economy over a span of five consecutive years, offering a comprehensive roadmap to address economic crises and correct the trajectory of development.
